Feel Fitness By Yoga

Patanjali, the father of Yoga sutras is considered the highest authority of knowledge even today. As the modern world adapts to this ancient form of holistic healing there has been a rise in fitness yoga.  The yoga sutras recommend eight forms of yoga for human beings also referred as ashtanga yoga.  With the advent in yoga consciousness new age gurus introduce alternate forms such as fitness yoga, to help people.

The reason why so much of the Yoga practices have simplified is because most people are looking for quick and effective solutions. There is no doubt that fitness yoga benefits immensely. But without the help of certified teachers, guides, regular attendance and practice, nothing can be achieved. A more preferred route is through laughter yoga. Everyone knows that laughter is best form of medicine. People get together to induce laughter scientifically in these sessions. In olden times the use of hasya ras (laughter) was one of the nav ras, important for the emotional well being of a person. Did they tell jokes? No, there was a series of exercises, which made the person laugh and improve overall well being. They knew very well that laughter develops the facial muscles. The same technique is used in laughing yoga in parts of US today. It is a good form of fitness yoga, as it does not involve any hard exercises like other regimes. Laughter yoga uses deep laughter to chortle the belly. Dr. Kataria has been instrumental in devising laughter yoga using the parameters of the ancient ashtang yoga (eight fold path). Since all yoga forms combine the use of the mind, body and soul, even laughing yoga is similar. It has health benefits too – in fact, it is the biggest stress buster in these hard times.

Since 1995 Dr. Kataria has introduced many yogic activities to suits all age groups. With meditation yoga one can relax the mind, body and soul. This obviously takes lots of practice. With laughter yoga the blood pressure lowers down. It is said 20 seconds of heavy laughter during fitness yoga is equal to 3 minutes of hard rowing and will burn up to 400 calories per hour!

Dr. Kataria feels that laughing is a serious matter. Training is provided in workshops at their centers, in clubs and organizations. Various corporate houses have also turned to fitness yoga and benefited. So if you feel like have a belly full of laughter, turn to laughter yoga. Happy laughing.
